Trifectas Repeat Performance ("Ditto")
|
|
Hilfy had nine healthy puppies on June 5, 2008 - six boys and three girls.
This brings her lifetime puppy count up to 26. As this is her last litter, she has gone out with a bang! For
more of her puppies, see also our litter of 8 whelped May 2005; the litter of 5 boys
born in August 2006; and the litter of 4 whelped March 2007.

The "Puppies" link will take you to pictures of puppies in groups.

Justice of Fern Hill ("Justice"), aka Sky Blue Boy
Born first, this guy was the heaviest puppy in the litter, and one of the darkest red. A self-confident
and "heroic" puppy, he was the first to be comfortable away from the puppy pile. He is a somewhat
serious puppy and takes his responsibilities as the oldest to heart! He's strong, sturdy, athletic, and fearless
-- he earned his puppy nickname "Hero" because of his habit of striking hilariously noble
poses. He has gone to Chicago, where he will eventually be a police/drug sniffing/public relations dog for the
Brookfield Zoo police department. At home, he will live with Sgt. Barb Clish and her other dogs, including K-9 Millie, "The
Sniffster," who is the current drug-sniffing dog at the zoo.
For more pictures and updates from his family,
see Justice's page.

Fernhill Smoky Mt. Surprise ("Paxton"), aka Indigo Boy
This little guy was born second, and is the second heaviest and the biggest boned puppy in
the litter. He also has the thickest coat, which is showing some early signs of waviness which
may or may not last. He's a very noisy puppy and is always one of the first to come running. He was
second to climb out of the laundry basket, and he's quite athletic and birdy. This boy has loads of
talent and looks too! He has moved to Nashville to join his new owner Wendy Fly, who will work
with him in obedience, agility, and maybe even give him a whirl in conformation puppy classes although that's not
a hugely successful arena for field line dogs.

Fern Hill Living the Life of Ryley ("Ryley"), aka Kelly Green Boy
Kelly Green puppy was the smallest boy at birth, but caught up soon, and at 7 weeks was right in the middle of the pack.
He was the first to open his eyes at 10 days old, and also one of the first to master the art of walking like a drunken sailor
rather than wheelbarrowing around the whelping box. He's sweet, athletic, and loves people. He has gone to live in east
Knoxville with the Bruntons, their three sons and two other Goldens, Rusty and River. Nancy intends to train him for obedience and agility,
both fields in which he is showing a lot of early talent.
See Ryley's Page for news updates,
growing-up pictures, and more puppy pictures.

Fern Hill's Tennessee Jed, aka Red Boy
Jed is one of the darkest puppies and is as cute as can be. Born 4th, he is brave, loves to
splash in the wading pool, and is ferocious with toys and his siblings. A very athletic and active
puppy, his ambition is to chase ducks when he grows up. He has gone home with Lloyd and Leigha
Montgomery of Knoxville, who are excited about helping him achieve that dream!

Payton, aka Pink Girl
The first girl born, Payton is the smallest puppy in the litter. She says she may look dainty, and
have meltingly beautiful eyes, but she is feisty and doesn't let the bigger kids give her any guff. She's
also very fierce with the stuffed toys...and the duck wings...and she loves to swim. She has gone to her
new home in Oklahoma City, where she joins her older half-sister Lis from Hilfy's first litter. She
will be the special companion for the Walker's son Grayson, who was working and not able to make the trip to pick her up.
See Payton's Page for news, at-home pictures, and more baby photos.

Callie, aka Sunshine Yellow Girl
Callie was the biggest of the three girls, and the third biggest puppy overall. She
was the first to initiate play behavior with another puppy on day 11, and the first on day 20 to
climb out of the laundry basket into my lap. She is a medium red color. She will be staying here
with us, hopefully to carry on as a breeder after Penny retires in a couple of years. In the meantime,
she's going to obedience and duck dog school!

Jake, aka Black Boy
Ironically, 'Black' Boy had the most white on him. As a young puppy, his spot was broadest and tapered
down almost to his nose. It is fading now as his puppy coat is changing, but it will be
interesting to see how much, if any, remains when he is an adult. He also has a few white toes on his left front foot.
He is very sweet and cuddly, highly cooperative, a little more laid back than many of
the others, and thinks that people are the most interesting
things in the world -- even better than Mommy. He has gone home to New Jersey to live with Nina
Aversano-Boudria and her family on a farm with horses and other dogs, and will eventually become a therapy dog working with teenagers.
He may try some obedience first, and shows a lot of natural talent in that area.

Fern Hill Huntley Barksdale, aka Lime Green Boy
Huntley was born next to the last, and was so slow in coming out that I panicked and
rushed Hilfy and her brood to the vet's where she got a pitocin shot. He came out about 10
minutes later. He is the lightest red puppy in the litter, with a very smooth and sleek
coat and a gorgeous head -- he's my daughter's and husband's favorite boy. He is demented about duck wings, and
wants to go chase ducks for a living. Luckily for him, his new owners, Keene and Elizabeth
Broadnax of Atlanta, think that's a great idea too. He joins the Broadnax's other Golden
Preston, who is one year and one day older than Huntley.

Fern Hill's Pocket Change ("Halleigh," aka White Girl)
Born last, Halleigh came out just ten minutes after her brother Huntley (Lime Green). She is the darkest
of the three girls and the middle one in size. She has a particularly beautiful head and like all of
them, is very cuddly and sweet -- but she also has a definite feisty streak and is a high-energy puppy.
She is very birdy and wants to be a duck dog too. She will get her chance
with new owner Sue Jensen of Maine, who is currently running a Sprint daughter in hunt tests. This makes
her a great aunt to Halleigh, as Hilfy's mother is also a Sprint daughter.
