This is what our breeding program is all about. We are extremely pleased with the quality of calves we are getting from our herd of Beefmaster cattle.

Our purebred bull calves are for sale at weaning and are priced according to age and quality. The price goes up as they get closer to service age. We usually keep the heifers until they are of breeding age, but occasionally we let one go earlier. See our For Sale page for full information on available cattle. Also, we have other calf pictures on our Cows page.

2015 Calving News

We had 4 calves during the winter/spring of 2015, all from our bull Commander Some of them will be for sale at weaning; Check our For Sale page for details and more recent pictures as time progresses.

  1. FH Dallas 07-14, BBU #pending: purebred red star-faced bull b. 12/20/14 (Commander x FH Mayfly). Mayfly is our best cow (rated U1-2 by BBU) and is a wonderful mother with tons of milk. This was her second calf in 2014 and both of them are dandies! Dallas is really well built and is growing great. Probably polled; dam is slick polled, sire is scurred -- no sign of horns yet at 3 months. For sale for $1100; will be ready to go to his new home in June.

  2. FH Jody Ware 01-15, BBU pending: purebred red paint bull, possibly polled, b. 1/31/15 (Commander x FH Ireland). Another very classy calf from Ireland who is turning out to be one of our best producers and a great mother. SOLD 2/13/15 to Michael Bailey of Illinois; he will stay on the farm until weaning in the summer.

  3. FH Thomasina 02-15, BBU pending: purebred brindle or black heifer, probably polled, b. 2/13/15 (Commander x FH Flight). Not a white hair on her! Her mother is Mayfly's beauty queen daughter FH Flight. If she is polled (both parents are) we will keep her for our herd.

  4. FH Sleet 03-15, BBU pending: purebred red paint heifer, probably polled, b. 2/16/15 (Commander and her dam is FH Rainstorm). Like her mother, Sleet was born during some pretty terrible weather -- in her case, it started as sleet, turned to freezing rain and then snow, and didn't get above freezing for the next two weeks, with repeated snowfalls during the entire time. Sleet came through like a champion and is strong, bouncy, and a very nice looking heifer. We are planning to keep her for our herd if she is polled.

2014 Calving News

We had 5 calves during the winter/spring from our bull Commander -- 3 good looking heifers, 2 handsome bulls. Both boys and all but one of the girls have been sold.

  1. FH Ottawa 01-14, BBU pending: polled purebred red or brown heifer b. 1/11/14 (Commander x FH Ireland). Solid red, without a white hair on her; great underline. Ireland's bull calf last year was one of the best of the crop, and this heifer looks awfully good. Ireland has so much milk she looks like she belongs on a dairy line -- and the calf is taking full advantage! SOLD July 25, 2014.

  2. FH Strawberry Plains 02-14, BBU pending: purebred red paint heifer, polled, b. 1/18/14 (Commander x FH Wings). Wow -- fancy red paint, great underline, very appealing and nicely built heifer who looks better every day. We have kept her in her herd as an eventual replacement for her lovely but horned mother.

  3. FH Cherokee 03-14, BBU pending: purebred black star-faced bull with white trim, polled b. 02/24/13 (Commander x FH Flight). A very correct and eye-catching young bull out of one of our best cows. Both parents are polled; he could be homozygous for the polled trait. SOLD July 2014.

  4. FH Bruce Coleman 05-14, BBU pending: purebred red star-faced bull with a few tiny white 'candy spots' and a white chin, polled. Born 02/19/14 (Commander x FH Rain). A stout, well made calf! Full brother to last year's most glamorous calf, FH Liz Perdew. Both parents are polled so he may be homozygous for the polled trait. SOLD August 2014.

  5. FH Audrey 06-14, BBU pending: last but worth waiting for, our young black cow Valentina turned out a flashy red paint heifer who is cute and bouncy, and very well built. Born May 14, 2014, she is another one with two polled parents. Polled herself, she may be homozygous for the polled trait. We can hope! Sire is (Commander and her dam is FH valentina). Her mother's first calf. SOLD August 2014.

2013 Calving News

We had many of our calves last fall, so had just a few this spring. In all, we now have 7 calves on the ground by our new bull Commander, 3 bulls and 4 heifers, and we are very pleased with their quality. Most of them are for sale -- Check our For Sale page for details and more recent pictures on which ones are still available.

  1. FH Liz Perdew 01-13, BBU pending: polled purebred brown heifer b. 2/20/13 (Commander x FH Rain). Rain's first calf is just gorgeous and we may not be able to part with her! SOLD March 2014 to the Howells of Tennesseee.

  2. FH Georgina 02-13, BBU pending: purebred red heifer b. 2/22/13 (Commander x FH Alexandra). This heifer is very closely related to Liz and they are both lovely. Georgina has a half-white tail and is a brighter red than Liz. She is for sale at weaning -- we'd love to keep her, but we don't have much pasture so she has to go! SOLD March 2014 to the Howells of Tennesseee.

  3. FH Sunday 03-13, BBU pending: purebred polled red bull b. 02/24/13 (Commander x FH Mayfly). A very correct and elegant young bull out of our best cow. Looks a lot like his brother Sanford who is herd bull at a large commercial operation in South Dakota. SOLD 8/31/13 to the Singletons of Harrogate, TN.

2012 Calving News

We had a split calving season this year, as we waited to breed our first-timers until the new bull arrived last December. The first four, all Osiris heifers, were born in the spring and they are dandy! We had three more calves in the fall by our new bull Commander, 2 bulls and a heifer, and all three will be for sale at weaning. Check our For Sale page for details and more recent pictures as time progresses.

  1. FH Juliette 01-12, BBU pending: purebred red horned heifer b. 2/10/12 (Osiris x FH Iris). She has a star face, mottled underline, heavily brockled legs, and a white tipped tail -- flashy! This is Iris's 6th calf, and they've all been dandies. See her 2011 full brother who looks just like her. SOLD June 2013 to the Waltons of Kentucky.

  2. (PB) FH Valentina 02-12, BBU pending: purebred black polled heifer b. 2/14/12 (Osiris x FH Mayfly). A full sister to our gorgeous 2-year old Flight, this is one we plan to add to our breeding herd.

  3. FH Frankie 03-12, BBU pending: purebred red heifer b. 2/22/12 (Osiris x FH Janiebiker). Dark red with a white underline, this heifer is a real looker. Her full brother was sold as a breeding bull to South Dakota, and her full sister is in our herd. She may be the best one so far! SOLD July 2012 to the Bogans of Kentucky.

  4. FH Leapday 04-12, BBU pending: purebred red heifer b. 2/29/12 (Osiris x FH Alexandra). Like her two beautiful full sisters Isis and Rain, Leap is smooth and feminine. Alexandra is quite the producer! SOLD June 2013 to the Waltons of Kentucky.

  5. FH Gatlin 05-12, BBU pending: polled purebred red bull b. 9/25/12 (Commander x FH Wings). Wings' first calf is red with some white patches on three feet and some white on his underline. His underline is one of the best we have had. Good bones and a cutie! SOLD June 2013 at the local meat market, after an injury that left him blind in his left eye.

  6. FH Hiwassee 06-12, BBU pending: purebred brown or brindle heifer b. 9/29/12 (Commander x FH Flight). This heifer is a deep, rich color with one white hind sock, a white-tipped tail, and some white on her underline. She is a beauty and would make an outstanding show heifer. We'd love to keep this one, but she is her mother's first calf and we can't keep them all! SOLD 8/31/13 to the Singletons of Harrogate, TN .

  7. FH Harlequin 07-12, BBU pending: purebred polled red paint bull b. 10/7/12 (Commander x FH Ireland). This one will knock your socks off! He is so flashy -- and also very well built and solid. His mother is one of our lovely young Osiris daughters and we are thrilled with her first baby. For sale to someone who wants to add great structure and some snazzy color to their herd. SOLD August 2014 to the Deweeses of Mississippi.

  8. FH Noelle 08-12, BBU pending: purebred brindle heifer b. 12/25/12 (Commander x FH Iris). This girl is Iris's second 2012 calf (the other one, Juliette, was born in February). She is one gorgeous heifer, with a white lightning splash on her right shouler. Like all of Iris's calves, she is thick, sturdy, and outstanding. SOLD March 2014 to the Howells of Tennesseee.

2011 Calving News

We only had 4 calves this year since we sold 4 of our cows last year to make room for our 2010 heifers -- they are all dandies! We will be selling all three bull calves and maybe a yearling heifer or two or a mature cow as a two or three-in-one. Check our For Sale page for details and more recent pictures as time progresses.

  1. FH George Washington 01-11, BBU #C1001482: purebred red paint horned bull b. 2/22/11 (Osiris x FH Iris). This is Iris's 5th calf, and they almost always are among our very best. See his full brother from last year.

  2. FH Rainstorm 02-11, BBU #C1001483: purebred red heifer b. 2/28/11 (Osiris x FH Alexandra). Slick polled, very feminine and smooth, lovely long neck, with just a touch of white on her underline, tail tip, and a few spots on her back legs. Alexandra is turning into quite the producer!

  3. FH Torrent 03-11, BBU #C1001484: purebred deep red bull b. 3/5/11 (Osiris x FH Janiebiker). This handsome bull has very thick bones in his legs and the best underline we have ever produced. He is very masculine looking, stylish, and strong, and an all-round nice calf. Horn status unknown at this point. He has a tiny, tiny pair of white dots on his forehead.

  4. FH Sanford 04-11, BBU #C1001485: purebred red polled bull b. 3/25/11 (Osiris x FH Mayfly). A good looking, stout boy out of our #1 cow, Mayfly, this boy is fancy.

  1. FH Coyote 01-10, 2X polled red paint bull b. 2/24/10 (Osiris x FH Pasco). This is Pasco's 7th calf, and he is a nice one -- excellent underline and small ears like an Angus for those who don't like the big Beefmaster ears. SOLD August 2010 to the Thomas family of Middle Tennessee.

  2. FH O Canada 02-10, purebred dark red bull b. 2/27/10 (Osiris x FH St. Patty). Another fine effort from Patty -- a handsome and well built boy! SOLD August 2010 to the Thomas family of Middle Tennessee.

  3. FH Isis 03-10, purebred solid dark red heifer b. 3/13/10 (Osiris x FH Alexandra). Alexandra had this calf, her first, all by herself and is doing a great job with her. She's a pretty and nicely built heifer, looks just like her mother but may be bigger.

  4. FH Ireland 04-10, purebred red or brown heifer b. 3/26/10 (Osiris x FH Janiebiker). Janie's first -- a sassy and very feminine heifer with a heavily mottled underline, an interesting star on her face, and brockling on both hind legs. She will be a big girl!

  5. FH Hilton 05-10, purebred black paint bull b. 4/3/10 (Osiris x FH Iris). Iris always has some of our best calves and this handsome boy is no exception. Big and blocky, fancy looking, for sale.

2007 Calving News

Our calves this year are mostly by a homebred bull, FH Lawrence. We are reducing our herd by two thirds this summer, as we have lost our leased pasture space and are in the middle of the worst drought in 50 years. Only a few left for sale -- Check our For Sale page for details.
  1. FH Winter 01-7, 2X black heifer b. 1/31/07 (Summers x FH Midnight). Midnight's 10th calf, she is a cute polled black heifer with a white underline, a full sister to FH Iris. Midnight has been a wonderful cow, having her first calf at the too-early age of 16 months, and then breeding back every year. She won't be 11 until August! We have used several of her calves in our herd and all have carried on in their mother's tradition of good-looking calves every year. SOLD.

  2. FH Surprise Surprise 02-7, purebred brown paint heifer b. 4/27/07 (FH Lawrence x FH New Orleans). New Orleans' first calf, she is an interestingly marked baby with a harlequin coat pattern with many small white spots. She is very young in this picture, only a few hours old, but strong and healthy. Her leg is NOT crooked, she is starting to walk towards me! SOLD

  3. FH Splash 03-7, purebred black and white paint heifer b. 5/3/07 (FH Lawrence x FH Iris). Flashy, well built heifer, her mother did herself proud with her first calf! SOLD.

  4. FH Rally 04-7, purebred red & white paint heifer b. 5/19/07 (FH Lawrence x FH Devin). Wow, great looking heifer, and polled! SOLD.

  5. FH Denso 05-7, purebred red paint bull b. 5/21/07 (FH Lawrence x FH St. Patty). Another solid, good-looking bull out of Patty. FOR SALE AT WEANING.

  7. FH Erik 07-7, purebred red paint bull b. 7/1/07 (FH Lawrence x FH Richland). This little bull is inbred, but BBU rep Jerry Hemphill says he's the best bull on the place, a real knockout good-looking boy out of one of our top producers. FOR SALE AT WEANING.

2006 Calving News

Our calves were mostly born in the middle of summer this year, which is not ideal. Nevertheless, they're a great group -- three really nice young bull calves and some good-looking heifers, all by our U1-3 Lasater-bred bull, Summers. Most will be for sale at weaning -- check our For Sale page for details.
  1. FH Chernobyl II 01-6, purebred red bull b. 4/26/06 (Summers x FH St. Patty). This calf is a full brother to Patty's knockout 2004 & 2005 heifers, and he is a dandy with one of the best underline we've ever had on a bull calf.

  2. FH Tuck 02-6, 2X red star-faced polled heifer b. 6/30/06 (Summers x FH Pasco). This is an unusually stout and well-built heifer with a fantastic frame and great long neck like her mom. She's red with two small roan spots -- probably carries for Paint.

  3. FH Amalie 03-6, purebred red and white paint polled heifer b. 7/8/06 (Summers x FH Mayfly). Cute girl with an interesting coat pattern, star face, and two hind socks.

  4. FH Cedar 04-6, purebred red star-faced bull b. 7/15/06 (Summers x FH Devin). Nice solid, well built calf with an excellent underline. Devin's first, and she's holding her weight well even with this big boy pulling at her.

  5. FH Rood 05-6, purebred red heifer with several small spots and white hind pasterns b. 7/23/06 (Summers x FH Shiloh). Nice, stocky heifer with good bone that almost certainly carries for paint. Shiloh's first calf!

  6. FH Chrome 06-6, purebred red and white paint bull b. 8/8/06 (Summers x FH Richland). His name says it all. Richland keeps having these gorgeous little bulls -- sure do wish we could talk her into having a girl of this quality one of these days! Great bone on this one.

2005 Calving News

Calving season is here! We had eight calves this year by our fine young U1-3 Lasater-bred bull, Summers. Some are for sale -- check our For Sale page for details.
  1. FH New Orleans 01-5, purebred red heifer b. 4/11/05 (Summers x FH St. Patty). This calf is a full sister to Patty's knockout 2004 heifer, Shiloh, only the 2005 model has more white on her underline and is not as dark a red. She's chunky and solid, and very smooth. As we want to keep Patty, one of these fine full sisters will be for sale but we haven't decided which one yet.

  2. FH Iris 02-5, 2X black heifer b. 4/15/05 (Summers x FH Midnight). Iris is a good-sized calf with lots of substance and bone. She's coal black with a parti-colored face and white underline. This one we will probably keep, and if so, her dam Midnight will be for sale. She's always been one of our best producing cows and had 8 calves by the time she was 8 years and 8 months old.

  3. FH Cinco de Mayo 04-5, 2X white and red paint bull b. 5/5/05 (Summers x FH Pasco). A flashy, squarely built young bull with lots of substance and bone, white with bright red spots, a red head, and a heart-shaped star. He's for sale and would make an outstanding herd bull for a commercial herd.

  4. FH Ginny 05-5, purebred solid black heifer b. 5/29/05 (Summers x FH July Surprise). Good looking heifer, shiny black, small amount of white on her underline.

  5. FH Nikki 06-5, 2X solid black heifer b. 6/18/05 (Summers x **FH September). Polled, nicely built, good underline, and shiny black. A keeper! This must be our year for black heifers!

  6. FH Frank Schweda 07-5, purebred red/white paint bull b. 7/20/05 (Summers x FH Mayfly). Mayfly is our only Secret Weapon (by Spartacus) daughter that we have retained in our herd, and this is her first calf. He's a cutie and unusually smart and level headed -- plus flashy paint job, polled, and nicely built. He is for sale.

  7. FH Lawrence 08-5, purebred red/white paint bull b. 7/20/05 (Summers x FH Richland). This is Richland's third calf, all bulls so far. The first two were really nice and sold as breeding bulls. This one may be the best yet. Too bad about the plumbing -- if he were a heifer, we'd keep him for sure! He's for sale.

  8. FH Ghost 09-5, Purebred red/white paint bull with a fascinating coat pattern. The right side is just as unusual and it looks like he will have a dark red background for all this fancy white. Polled. (Summers x FH Lightning) Born on October 26, and named after the upcoming holiday. He will be for sale at weaning next spring.

2004 Calving News

We had a total of  8 calves in 2004, most of them by our new bull Summers but one little accident. This was our year for a bumper crop of heifers!
  1. FH Quince 01-4, black heifer b. 1/14/04 (Hankins Angus x FH Lightning). We didn't plan on our neighbor's bull visiting last spring, but he's a very fine Angus and Lightning is our best cow. The heifer is very elegant, polled, and solid black. Sold as an outstanding commercial replacement heifer -- for particulars, see our For Sale page.

  2. FH Shiloh 02-4, purebred very dark red heifer b. 4/7/04 (Summers x FH St. Patty). This is Patty's first calf by Summers, and she's got everything you want to see in a brood cow -- great bone, long body, long elegant neck, lots of muscle, and good underline -- all in a plain brown wrapper.

  3. FH Devin 03-4, 2X red paint heifer b. 5/21/04 (Summers x FH Smuggler). Mostly red with one white shoulder/upper leg and a small spot on the other side, this little girl is perky, polled and a real doll.

  4. FH Belmont 04-4, 2X dark red parti-faced heifer b. 6/8/04 (Summers x FH Midnight) Midnight is one of our best producers. We were hoping for a black paint polled heifer -- got a heifer and she looks really nice, but not QUITE what we ordered!

  5. FH Biloxi 05-4, 2X black steer with white underline b. 6/24/04 (Summers x FH Pasco) Nice calf, but wrong plumbing!

  6. FH Ice Show 06-4, purebred red bull with a white underline b. 8/8/04. (Summers x FH Richland). Richland's calf by Summers last year was a dynamite little bull who was sold to NY. This is a full brother who carries for paint. He looks really good so far -- look for more recent pictures on our For Sale Page!

  7. FH Augustine 07-4, 2X polled red heifer with small amount of white on her underline b. 8/10/04. (Summers x **FH September) This is **September's first baby by Summers and she's a dandy!

  8. FH Giuliani 08-4, 2X dark red or brown heifer with a white underline and a small roan spot on her back (Summers x FH Terra Nova) Born on September 11, and named after the New York Mayor. She's a fine heifer, Terra Nova's first effort. Scurred.

2003 Calves

This year we had a partial calf crop from our old bull Summers, who had been having increasing difficulties with arthritis in his hind legs last summer. We also had the first calves from our new bull, the L-Bar 5502 son Summers.
  1. FH Times Square (Secret Weapon x Lightning), purebred red bull, polled, white tipped tail, born 12/31/02. The best bull we've raised, out of our gorgeous U1/2 cow. Great neck and frame.
  2. FH Valentino (Secret Weapon x Cowie Owie), purebred red paint bull, heart-shaped star on his forehead, born 2/13/03. Cowie's last calf, this one is a dandy.
  3. FH Monsoon (Secret Weapon x St. Patricia), purebred red heifer, born 5/6/03. A full sister to our gorgeous 2002 bull, Queen's Jubilee and looks a lot like him at the same age. We're keeping her.
  4. FH Mayfly (Secret Weapon x **September), Second cross black brindle paint heifer, born 5/23/03. Cute and bouncy, she's going to be a big cow. Another keeper.
  5. Toro (Summers x FH Muffet), Second cross red steer, born 5/22/03 -- Summers' first calf, this fine steer weighed 495 pounds at 7 months, and sold for $.96/pound.
  6. FH Vermont (Summers x FH Richland), Purebred dark red WUL bull, born 6/22/03 -- Richland's first calf! Sold to a farm in New York for use in their commercial herd.
  7. E.R. (Summers x FH Smuggler), Second cross red WUL steer, born 7/13/03 -- a big, chunky boy, he weighed 440 pounds at 5 months, and sold for $1.01 at the local sale barn.
  8. FH Kansas (Summers x FH Midnight), Second cross red white face, WUL, white legged heifer, born 7/21/03 -- Another fine calf from Midnight, she's a big girl who will probably be for sale next fall.
